The Department of Social Work celebrated the end of a successful and challenging academic year in 2020-21 with 3 staff proudly receiving highly valued student-nominated School of Law Social Sciences Excellence in Teaching and Student Support Awards. These awards were decided by student reps across the School to recognise contributions that have led to a sustained positive impact on the learning and teaching community or on overall student experience within the School. Prof Anna Gupta, Dr Louise O’Connor and Karl Mason were thrilled to receive awards.

Karl commented: “I was delighted to hear that students had nominated me for a Law And Social Sciences teaching award this year. We all work hard to make sure students are well supported to learn and engage. Although this year has thrown up challenges associated with virtual learning and a lack of face-to-face contact, it has been lovely to work with students on all our programmes and supporting them to thrive and succeed. Therefore, it means a lot that this award comes from our student group. Thanks so much for your support!”

Louise and Anna were similarly delighted, emphasising their appreciation at being nominated by students in what was an incredibly challenging year for everyone. Louise said that the award was all the more valuable because it comes from students: “These awards mean such a lot, individually and to our team. We really value our students and aim to provide them with the best experience of research-informed teaching, academic and pastoral support across our different programmes. We have high expectations of our students and ourselves. I really appreciate the award. A big thank you to the students who took the time to show this appreciation in a year which challenged us all”.
