According to the publisher, the book ‘provides fascinating examples of dance and music projects across the Indian Diaspora to highlight that decolonisation is a creative process, as well as a historical and political one’. It features contributions by Professor Ramnarine and seven other authors, on case studies ranging from a South African dance company to the BBC Young Dancer talent competition.

Dance, Music and Cultures of Decolonisation in the Indian Diaspora was earlier published as a special issue of the journal South Asian Diaspora, also edited by Professor Ramnarine. Full details of the book can be found here.

Tina K. Ramnarine is Professor of Music at Royal Holloway, University of London, and a musician, anthropologist and global cultural explorer. Other recent publications include the 2018 books Global Perspectives on Orchestras: Collective Creativity and Social Agency, which she edited for Oxford University Press, and We Mark Your Memory: Writings from the Descendants of Indenture, an anthology of creative writing co-edited for the School of Advanced Study, University of London. Her next book, Jean Sibelius’s Violin Concerto, is forthcoming in 2020.
