Call for Student Participation: 'Decolonising Law at RHUL'

Call for Student Participation in a Survey and Group Discussion

  • Date02 February 2024

Dr Malak Benslama-Dabdoub has secured a grant from the LSS Scholarship and Innovation Fund to conduct a project on 'Decolonising at RHUL'. This project aims at collecting students' opinions on the need de 'decolonise' RHUL Legal Studies by reforming our curricula and pedagogic practices.

Despite the increasing calls from students to ‘decolonise the university’ and ‘decolonise the curriculum’, especially following the BLM protests, only 20% of universities in the UK have committed to reforming their teaching content and practices. This project aligns with this spirit, in line with RHUL's commitment to Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI). It notably draws upon previous student-led campaigns at UCL, Oxford, Sussex (among other institutions).

Against this background, we are seeking to collect students' opinions about diversity in the teaching team and content. Anyone studying Law at RHUL is invited to take part in this project via the following forms:

- An online questionnaire (that can be completed online): £10 reward for participating

- A 45 min student-focused group (to take place on-campus): £20 reward for participating

If you wish to participate, please complete this form to indicate your interest: https://forms.office.com/e/09C2RQg1eL. The QR code will also take you to this form.

The names will be anonymised but the findings of the study will be made available online.

Any questions about this project, please contact Dr Malak Benslama-Dabdoub: malak.benslama-Dabdoub@rhul.ac.uk.
